Upgrading from Joomla 1.0, 1.5, 2.5 or Joomla 3
to Joomla 4 or Joomla 5

Moving from older versions of Joomla will involve building a new Joomla 4 or Joomla 5 website and then migrating, where possible, your old data into your new website. It is not possible to do a simple upgrade. For this reason if you have a small website it is usually easier and cheaper to build a new website. If however you have a large website, with data you need to keep, you may need to migrate that data.

  • You have a large photo gallery and it will take too long to add all the photos again
  • You have a large forum and you don't want to lose all the old posts

We have extensive experience migrating old Joomla 1.0, Joomla 1.5, Joomla 2.5 and Joomla 3 websites to Joomla 4 and Joomla 5.

Many projects have included migrating thousands of pages and users and data from various extensions such as Virtuemart. Although there are migration scripts available to migrate some of the most popular extensions, many do not. In most cases we can still help by creating a custom script to bring the data into your new Joomla website. In fact, we can also migrate data from any database driven solution into Joomla.

The process for migrating a Joomla 1.0, 1.5 or 2.5 website to Joomla 4 or Joomla 5 can be complicated and depending on the amount of data and extensions, it can often cost as much or more than building a new website. Most website owners who have a Joomla 1.0, 1.5 or 2.5 website who want to move to the latest version of Joomla, think they need to "upgrade". However it is not possible to upgrade Joomla from 1.0, 1.5 or 2.5 to the latest version of Joomla. What needs to be done is to transfer or migrate the data from your old Joomla website to your new Joomla website. This is call migration.
